How Do Hourly Jobs Work on UpWork?

As a freelancer, you’re in charge of your own time. That means you can work on UpWork as little or as much as you want. If you want to take on a full-time job, great!

You can work 40 hours per week on UpWork. If you only want to work part-time, that’s perfectly fine too. You can pick and choose the jobs that you want to work on and how many hours you want to work each week.

There are two types of jobs on UpWork: hourly and fixed-price. With an hourly job, the client pays you for the number of hours that you work. With a fixed-price job, the client pays you a set amount for the entire project, no matter how long it takes you to complete it.

PRO TIP: This article is outdated and no longer accurate.

If you’re interested in an hourly job, the first thing you need to do is submit a proposal to the client. In your proposal, be sure to include your hourly rate and how many hours per week you’re available to work. The client will then review your proposal and decide whether or not to award you the job.

Once you’ve been awarded an hourly job, it’s time to start working! You’ll track your time using UpWork’s built-in time tracker.

This ensures that both you and the client are clear on how many hours you’ve worked. The client will then approve or reject your time entries at the end of each week.

If everything goes well, the client will be happy with your work and will continue to give you more hours each week. If not, the client may decide to end the relationship or give you fewer hours in future weeks. Either way, with an hourly job on UpWork, you’re in control of your own destiny!
