Adding a banner to your Shopify store is a great way to showcase your brand or promote a sale. There are two ways to add a banner to your Shopify store: using the built-in banner builder, or adding HTML code to your theme.
Using the built-in banner builder:
1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
2. Find the theme you want to edit, and then click Customize.
3. In the Sections directory, click Banners.
4. Click Add banner.
5. Enter a Banner name. This is for internal use only and will not be visible to customers. 6. Select an image for your banner. You can upload a new image, or select one from your existing files.
7. Enter a Banner link. This is the URL that customers will be taken to when they click on your banner.
8. Enter some Alt text. This is text that will be displayed if the image can’t be loaded for some reason. It’s also used by search engines to index your site, so it’s important to include keywords that describe your banner here.
9. Select a Banner layout. This determines how the text and image will be arranged on your banner.
10. Click Save. Your new banner will now be visible on your store!
Adding HTML code to your theme:
If you’re comfortable working with HTML code, you can add a custom banner to your theme by editing the code of your theme files. Most themes have a file called banner.liquid
, which controls the banners on that particular theme. To edit this file:
- Find the theme you want to edit, and then click Actions > Edit code.
- In the
Layout
directory, click onbanner.liquid
. - If you don’t see this file, try looking in the
Sections
directory instead – some themes have their banners controlled by a file calledsection-banner.liquid
. - If you still can’t find it, try searching for “banner” in the search bar at the top of the page – this will show you all of the files in your theme that mention “banner”, which should help you find the right one! Once you’ve found it, click on it to open it in the code editor.
First, make sure that the banner you add is relevant to your store and your products or services. A banner that is not relevant to your store may confuse or turn off potential customers.
Second, keep the banner simple and easy to understand. Too much text or too many images on a banner can be overwhelming and make it difficult for customers to understand what you are trying to promote.
Finally, make sure the banner is placed in a prominent location on your store so that customers will see it when they visit your store. A banner that is hidden away on a page is not likely to generate much interest or traffic.
