First, you will need to create a hosting account at HostGator. Once you have created your account, you will need to create a new account at Namecheap.
Namecheap is a third-party domain registrar that offers a variety of domain privacy services. After you have created your account at Namecheap, follow the steps below to add privacy to your HostGator domain.
First, at HostGator, click on the Accounts tab and then click on the Domain Accounts link. On the Domain Accounts page, click on the Add Domain button and enter the domain name you want to add privacy to into the Domain Name field. In the Hosting Plan field, select the Free or Premium plan that best suits your needs. In the Privacy Settings field, click on the Privacy Settings button and select the Privacy Level you want to use for this domain. The available privacy levels are: Private, Protected, and Public. Private is the default privacy level.
Protected is the least privacy level and Public is the most privacy level. After you have selected the privacy level, click on the Continue button. On the Domain Name Confirmation page, you will need to enter the correct domain name and the correct hosting account information. If you have already created a hosting account at HostGator, enter the account information in the Hosting Account Name and Hosting Account Number fields. If you have not created a hosting account at HostGator, enter the account information in the Hosting Account Name and Hosting Account Number fields and then click on the Create button. After you have created the domain name and hosting account, click on the Save button.
Now that you have added privacy to your HostGator domain, you will need to create a CNAME record at Namecheap. To create a CNAME record, click on the Domains tab and then click on the Add a Domain button. On the Add a Domain page, enter the domain name you want to use as the CNAME record and the CNAME record information. In the Host Name (or IP Address) field, enter the host name or IP address of the host you want to use as the CNAME record.
In the Target Domain field, enter the domain name you want to use as the Target for the CNAME record. After you have entered the CNAME record information, click on the Create button.
Now that you have added the privacy to your HostGator domain and created the CNAME record, you will need to add the CNAME record to your DNS server. To add the CNAME record to your DNS server, open your DNS server and enter the host name or IP address of the HostGator host you want to use as the CNAME record. In the A Records (or PTR Records) field, enter the host name or IP address of the HostGator host you want to use as the CNAME record.
In the CNAME Records (or PTR Records) field, enter the CNAME record information. After you have entered the CNAME record information, click on the Save button.
