How Do I Add Realistic Hair to Photoshop?

If you’re looking to add some realistic hair to your Photoshop creations, there are a few things you’ll need to do. First, you’ll need to find a good stock image of hair.

You can do this by searching for “hair” in Google Images, or by finding a site that specializes in stock images (such as iStock). Once you’ve found a good image, open it up in Photoshop and use the lasso tool to select the area of hair you want to use.

PRO TIP: This article contains graphic images that may be disturbing to some readers. Viewer discretion is advised.

Next, create a new layer and paste the selected hair into it. You may need to use the transform tool to resize and/or rotate the hair so that it looks natural. Once you’re happy with how the hair looks, go to Image > Adjustments > Levels and play around with the sliders until the hair looks realistic (this step is important, as bad levels can make your hair look flat and lifeless).

Finally, add a few finishing touches. Use a soft round brush set to a low opacity to lightly brush over the hair and blend it into the background.

You can also use a Gaussian blur filter to slightly blur the edges of the hair layer, which will help create a more realistic look. And that’s it! With just a few simple steps, you can add realistic looking hair to any Photoshop creation.
