How Do I Change the Artboard in Photoshop?

If you’re using Photoshop CS6 or earlier, double-click the “Background” layer in the Layers panel to make it editable, then go to Image > Canvas Size. To add an artboard, click the “arrow” icon in the upper right corner of the dialog box and choose “Artboard.”

In the new dialog box that appears, enter the dimensions for your new artboard. You can also specify where you want the new artboard to be placed in relation to the existing image by changing the “Anchor” option.

PRO TIP: If you are working in Photoshop and need to change the artboard, be sure to do so with caution. The artboard is a vital part of the design workspace and if it is not set up correctly, it can cause problems with your project. Make sure to double check the dimensions and settings before making any changes.

If you’re using Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud), you can add artboards by going to File > New > Artboards. In the dialog box that appears, specify the dimensions and location for your new artboard(s).

To move an artboard, simply click and drag it to a new location. To delete an artboard, select it and press the Delete key (Mac) or Backspace key (Windows).

Conclusion:

Adding and manipulating artboards in Photoshop is a fairly simple process, whether you’re using an older version or the Creative Cloud. Just remember that you need to have the “Background” layer unlocked in order to add or move an artboard.
