How Do I Change the Background Color of a Layer in Photoshop?

There are multiple ways to change the background color of a layer in Photoshop. One way is to simply click on the layer in the Layers panel and then click on the “background color” icon at the bottom of the panel.

Another way is to double-click on the layer in the Layers panel, which will bring up the Layer Style dialogue box. From here, you can click on the “Color Overlay” option and then choose the color you want for your background.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop, or do not have a background in design, you should not attempt to change the background color of a layer in Photoshop. Doing so could result in an undesired effect, or even damage to the image.

If you want more control over the color of your background, you can create a new layer underneath your current layer and then fill it with the color you want. You can then change the opacity of your top layer to create different effects.

Finally, if you want to completely remove the background from a layer, you can use the “Erase” tool to erase any pixels that are on the background color.
