In Photoshop, the Background layer is the bottommost layer in the Layers panel. By default, the Background layer is locked, which prevents you from accidentally modifying your image’s background. If you want to change the color of your image’s background, you’ll need to unlock the Background layer first.

To unlock the Background layer:

  1. In the Layers panel, double-click on the lock icon next to the Background layer.
  2. A dialog box will appear. Click on the “OK” button.

The lock icon should now be gone, and you should be able to click on and edit the Background layer.
