How Do I Change the Tilt in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 4:13 pm

There are a couple different ways that you can change the tilt in Photoshop. One way is to use the Free Transform tool. With the layer that you want to tilt selected, go to Edit > Free Transform, or press Ctrl/Cmd+T. You’ll see a box appear around the layer, with little squares in the corners. If you hover your mouse over one of the corner squares, you’ll see your cursor change to a double arrow. Click and hold down your mouse button, then drag the layer to tilt it. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl/Cmd+[ or Ctrl/Cmd+] to rotate the layer counter-clockwise or clockwise by 1 degree, respectively.

Another way to change the tilt is to use the Rotate tool. Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate, or press Ctrl/Cmd+W.

Again, you’ll see a box appear around the layer, but this time there will be a circle in the middle. Hover your mouse over the circle and click and drag to rotate the layer. You can also click on the small square in the middle of the circle and drag it to move the entire layer around without changing its rotation.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop, or do not have a lot of experience using the software, you should not attempt to change the tilt of an image. Doing so can result in an image that is distorted and does not look natural.

If you need more precision than what Photoshop’s tools can give you, you can always enter exact values for how much you want to rotate the layer. With the layer selected, go to Edit > Transform > Rotate again or press Ctrl/Cmd+W. This time, look in the options bar at the top of Photoshop and you’ll see two input fields labeled “Angle.” Entering a value here will rotate your layer by that many degrees. You can also type in “-180” or “180” here and hit Enter/Return to quickly flip your layer upside down.

Conclusion:

So those are a few different ways that you can change the tilt in Photoshop! Whether you’re using the Free Transform tool, Rotate tool, or just entering in exact values, it’s easy to get your layers tilted just how you want them.
