There are a few different ways that you can copy a component from one file to another in Figma. The first way is to simply select the component that you want to copy, and then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac). This will copy the component and all of its children to your clipboard.

You can then paste the component into another file using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac). This will create a new instance of the component in the other file.

If you want to keep the original component in its original file, you can use the Duplicate command. To do this, select the component that you want to copy, and then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D (Windows) or Cmd + D (Mac). This will create a new instance of the component in the same file.

PRO TIP: When copying a component from one file to another in Figma, it is important to be aware that any changes made to the component in the original file will not be carried over to the new file. This means that if you make any changes to the component in the original file, you will need to update the component in the new file manually.

You can also use the Duplicate command to copy a component to another file. To do this, select the component that you want to copy, and then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + D (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + D (Mac).

The last way to copy a component is to use the Export command. To do this, select the component that you want to copy, and then use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + E (Windows) or Cmd + E (Mac).

This will open up a dialog where you can choose to export the component as an image or as a JSON file. If you choose to export as an image, you can then paste it into another file. If you choose to export as a JSON file, you can import it into another file.

Conclusion: As you can see, there are a few different ways that you can copy a component from one file to another in Figma. Whether you want to keep the original component or not, there is a method that will suit your needs.
