How do I create a custom post type in WordPress?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 12:11 am

Creating a custom post type in WordPress is easy. To begin, go to the “Posts” screen in your WordPress admin area, and click on the “Post Type” button in the toolbar.

This will open the “Post Type Manager” screen. In this screen, you will need to click on the “Add New” button and then enter the details for your new post type.

Your new post type will need a name (for example, “Test Post Type”), a description, and a set of criteria that your posts must meet in order to be included in this category. For example, you might want your new post type to include posts about testing WordPress themes and plugins.

PRO TIP: When creating a custom post type in WordPress, it is important to remember to flush the rewrite rules after registering the post type. Failure to do so will result in a 404 error when trying to view the custom post type.

Once you have created your new post type, you will need to add some posts to it. To do this, click on the “Posts” tab in your WordPress admin area and then click on the “Add New” button.

This will open the “Posts screen”. In this screen, you will need to enter the details for your first post in your new post type.

After you have created your first post, you will need to click on the “Edit” button next to it and then click on the “Post Type” button in the toolbar. This will open the “Post Type Manager” screen.

In this screen, you will need to click on the “Add New” button and then enter the details for your new post type. In this screen, you will need to click on the “Add.
