How Do I Create a Heatmap in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 11:19 am

A heatmap is a graphical representation of data where the individual values contained in a matrix are represented as colors. Heatmaps are used to easily identify patterns and trends in data sets, and they are often used to find correlations.

In Photoshop, you can create a heatmap by using the “Gradient Map” adjustment layer.

To create a heatmap, first open your image in Photoshop. Then, go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map.

A dialogue box will appear. In the “Gradient” drop-down menu, select the “Black, White” gradient. This will ensure that your heatmap has a black background and white foreground.

Next, click on the “OK” button. Your image will now have a black and white gradient map adjustment layer on top of it.

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to create a heatmap in Photoshop. However, it is important to note that heatmaps can be easily misused and misinterpreted. When creating a heatmap, be sure to use a large enough data set to ensure accuracy, and be sure to explain the map in detail to avoid confusion.

To edit the gradient map, double-click on the layer thumbnail. This will open the “Gradient Editor” dialogue box.

Here, you can adjust the black point and white point by clicking and dragging on the sliders. You can also add additional points to the gradient by clicking on the gradient line.

Once you’re happy with your gradient map, click on the “OK” button. Your heatmap is now complete!

Creating a heatmap in Photoshop is a simple process that can be done by using the “Gradient Map” adjustment layer. This layer allows you to easily edit the black point and white point of your heatmap, as well as add additional points to the gradient.
