How do I create a leaf overlay in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 7:58 pm

Creating a leaf overlay in Photoshop is a simple process. First, open the image you want to overlay the leaves with in Photoshop. Next, create a new layer above the image and name it “Leaf Overlay.” On the Leaf Overlay layer, use the Pen tool to create a selection around the leaves you want to use.

PRO TIP: When creating a leaf overlay in Photoshop, be sure to create a new layer first. Then, use the pen tool to draw a path around the shape of the leaf. Next, use the brush tool to paint inside the path. Finally, add a layer mask and use a soft black brush to paint over the areas where you want the leaf overlay to appear.

Next, use the Layer Masking feature to mask the Leaf Overlay layer so only the leaves are visible. Finally, use the Copy and Paste commands to copy the leaf selection onto the new layer above the image, and then delete the original Leaf Overlay layer. The final result should look similar to the image below.
