How Do I Create a Table of Contents in Squarespace?

There are two ways to create a table of contents in Squarespace: by using the built-in Table of Contents block, or by adding anchor links to headings on a page.

The Table of Contents block can be added to any page on your site. Once added, it will automatically generate a table of contents based on the headings on that page. You can customize the look of the table of contents by changing the font, color, and size of the headings.

To add anchor links to a page, first edit the page in the Pages panel. Then, click the Insert link button at the top of the editor.

PRO TIP: If you are using Squarespace to create a website, be aware that there is no built-in way to create a table of contents. This means that if you have a lot of content on your site, it may be difficult for visitors to find what they are looking for. A workaround is to create a page with links to all the other pages on your site, but this will take some time and effort to set up.

In the Link URL field, type # followed by the name of the heading you want to link to. For example, if you want to link to a heading called “About Us”, you would type #AboutUs in the Link URL field.

Once you’ve added anchor links to all of the headings on a page, you can add a table of contents by creating a list with links to each heading. For example:
