How Do I Create a Thermal Image in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:41 am

A thermal image is an image that shows heat. It is made by using a special camera that can see heat.

The camera sees heat as different colors. The hotter something is, the more yellow or red it will be. The cooler something is, the more blue it will be.

You can make a thermal image in Photoshop by using the thermal layer. To do this, first, open Photoshop and create a new document.

Then, go to the Layers panel and click on the “Create new fill or adjustment layer” icon. A menu will appear. Select “Gradient Map” from the menu.

PRO TIP: Please be aware that creating a thermal image in Photoshop can be dangerous if you do not have the proper safety gear. Thermal images can be extremely hot and can cause serious burns. Always wear gloves, long sleeves, and protective eyewear when working with thermal images.

A gradient map will appear in your document. Next, go to the “Edit” menu and select “Color Range.”

In the color range dialog box, select “Yellow” from the “Select:” drop-down menu. Then, click on the “OK” button.

Now, go to the Layers panel and click on the “Create new fill or adjustment layer” icon again. Select “Invert” from the menu.

Your thermal image is now complete!
