How Do I Create an Automatic Collection in Shopify?

If you’re running a Shopify store, you know that one of the most important things you can do to increase sales is to create collections. A collection is simply a group of products with a shared theme, such as “Summer Essentials” or “Office Supplies”.

Creating collections is a great way to boost sales because it helps customers find the products they’re looking for more easily. It also allows you to showcase your products in a more visually appealing way. And last but not least, it gives you an opportunity to promote specific products or product groups that you want to push.

PRO TIP: If you are planning to create an automatic collection in Shopify, please be aware that there are some potential risks involved.

First and foremost, it is important to remember that automatic collections are generated based on your shop’s existing products and collections. This means that if you make any changes to your products or collections (e.g. change a product’s price or delete a collection), these changes will also be reflected in your automatic collection.

Additionally, please note that Shopify’s automatic collections are not currently compatible with certain features, such as product variants and custom product options. If you rely on these features for your shop, you may want to consider using a different method for creating your collections.

So how do you create an automatic collection in Shopify? Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel and go to Products. From here, you’ll be able to see all of the products in your store.
  2. Click on the Collections tab. This will take you to the collections page, where you can see all of the collections that have already been created for your store.
  3. Click on the Create collection button. This will take you to the page where you can create a new collection.
  4. Enter a name and description for your collection. Be sure to choose a name that accurately reflects the theme of the products in the collection.
    For example, if you’re creating a summer essentials collection, choose a name like “Summer Essentials” or “Summer Must-Haves”.

Now that you’ve entered a name and description for your collection, it’s time to add products. You can do this in one of two ways:

  1. Manually add products: On the Products page, tick the checkboxes next to the products that you want to add to your collection. Then, click on the “Add products” button. This will add those products to your collection.
  2. Or..

  3. “Add all products” button: On the “Add all products” page, select the criteria that you want your products to meet. For example, if you want to add all of the products in your store that are tagged with “summer”, select that tag from the drop-down menu. Then, click on the “Add all products” button.

    Adding all products that match certain criteria is a great way to quickly populate your collection. However, if you want more control over which products are included in your collection, manually adding them is probably a better option.
    Once you’ve added all of the products you want to include in your collection, it’s time to start promoting it! The best way to do this is by adding a banner image and featured product image.

    Adding these images will help your collection stand out and give customers a better idea of what it’s all about. To add a banner image:

      1. Go back to the “Collections” page.
      2. Find the collection that you want to add a banner image to and click on its name.
      3. On the right-hand side of the page, under “Collection images”, click on “Add image”.
      4. Choose an image from your computer and click on “Save”. To add a featured product image:

      • Go back to the “Products” page.
      • Find the product that you want to feature and click on its name.
      • Under “Images”, click on “Add image”.
      • Choose an image from your computer and click on “Save”.

    That’s it! You’ve now successfully created an automatic collection in Shopify.
