Whether you’re wanting to add a touch of whimsy to your photos or create digital artwork, Photoshop’s illustration effects are the perfect way to do it! In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to create three different illustration effects in Photoshop.

To start, open up your image in Photoshop. We’re going to be using this image of a girl blowing bubbles.

Next, go to Filter > Stylize > Glowing Edges. In the Glowing Edges dialog box, play around with the Edge Thickness and Edge Brightness until you get an effect that you like. We went with an Edge Thickness of 5 and an Edge Brightness of 25.

Now, go to Image > Adjustments > Threshold. In the Threshold dialog box, move the slider until you get an effect that you like. We went with a level of 160.

Click OK when you’re happy with the effect. You should now have something that looks like this:

The next step is to add some color to your image. Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

In the Hue/Saturation dialog box, move the Saturation slider to the right until you get an effect that you like. We went with +35.

Now, go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. In the Brightness/Contrast dialog box, move the Contrast slider to the right until you get an effect that you like. We went with +50.

The last step is to add a bit of a glow around the edges of your image. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. In the Gaussian Blur dialog box, enter a Radius of 2 pixels and click OK.
