How Do I Draw a Rectangle in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 10:01 pm

There are a couple different ways that you can draw a rectangle in Photoshop. You can use the Rectangle Tool, which is located in the Tools palette, or you can use the Shape tool, which is located in the Options bar.

If you want to use the Rectangle Tool, simply select it from the Tools palette and then click and drag on your canvas to draw a rectangle. If you want to create a square, hold down the Shift key while you’re dragging. You can also use the Rectangle Tool to draw a rounded rectangle by holding down the Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key while you’re dragging.

If you want to use the Shape tool, select it from the Options bar and then click and drag on your canvas. By default, the Shape tool will draw a path, but if you hold down the Shift key while you’re dragging, it will draw a shape.

To draw a square shape, hold down both the Shift key and the Alt (Win) / Option (Mac) key while you’re dragging. And to draw a rounded rectangle, just hold down the Shift key while you’re dragging.

PRO TIP: This tutorial is for Adobe Photoshop CC and may not work with other versions.

To change the color of your rectangle, simply select a new color from the Foreground Color picker in the Tools palette. Or if you’re using the Shape tool, you can select a color from the color swatches in the Options bar.

And that’s all there is to drawing rectangles in Photoshop!
