How Do I Enable OpenCL in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:29 pm

OpenCL is a Khronos standard for programming heterogeneous systems that combines a CPU with a GPU or other types of processors.

Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 now supports OpenCL 1.2 on all major graphics cards, including NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel HD Graphics. This allows Photoshop to use the processing power of the graphics card to speed up certain tasks, such as applying filters,Smart Objects, Liquify, Distort, and puppet warp.

PRO TIP: If you enable OpenCL in Photoshop, it may improve the performance of some Photoshop features. However, it can also lead to crashes and other stability issues. We recommend that you only enable OpenCL if you are experiencing performance issues with Photoshop and you have tried all other troubleshooting measures first.

To enable OpenCL in Photoshop, go to Edit > Preferences > Performance. Then, under Use Graphics Processor, select OpenCL from the drop-down menu.

Conclusion:

Enabling OpenCL in Photoshop can help speed up certain tasks by taking advantage of the processing power of the graphics card. To do so, go to Edit > Preferences > Performance and select OpenCL from the Use Graphics Processor drop-down menu.
