How Do I Export and Import in Figma?

Last updated on September 29, 2022 @ 10:19 am

Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool – the first interface design tool with real-time collaboration. It’s what everybody in the industry is talking about, and for good reason: it’s awesome.

If you’re new to Figma, you might be wondering how to export and import files. Here’s a quick guide to help you get started.

Export

When you’re ready to share your work with others, you can export your designs as PNG, JPG, or SVG files.

To export a file, simply click on the File menu and select Export from the drop-down menu. You can also use the shortcut Command + E (Mac) or Control + E (Windows).

In the Export dialog box, you can choose which format to export your file as well as the quality and resolution. For PNG and JPG files, you can also specify the background color. Once you’ve made your selections, click Export.

PRO TIP: When exporting and importing in Figma, be sure to use the correct file type for your project. Exporting as a .png file will result in a loss of quality, while exporting as a .jpg file will cause the file to be much larger than it needs to be.

Your file will be downloaded to your computer.

Import

To import a file into Figma, click on the File menu and select Import from the drop-down menu. You can also use the shortcut Command + O (Mac) or Control + O (Windows).

In the Import dialog box, select the file you want to import and click Open.

Your file will be added to the current project.

Figma is a great tool for designers who are looking for an easy way to collaborate with others in real-time. If you’re new to Figma, exporting and importing files might seem confusing at first. But with this quick guide, you’ll be able to do it like a pro in no time!
