How do I fill a layer with color in Photoshop?

In Photoshop, you can fill a layer with color by using the Color palette. To open the Color palette, select the Color panel from the Window menu, or press Ctrl+J (Windows) or Command+J (Mac OS).

To fill a layer with color, select the layer you want to color, and then click the Color button in the palette’s toolbar. The Color palette will open, and you can select a color from the palette.

PRO TIP: If you are using Photoshop to fill a layer with color, be sure to use the Paint Bucket tool, not the Brush tool. Otherwise, you may end up with an unwanted color gradient.

You can also click the color box at the bottom of the palette to open the Color Picker, which lets you select a color from a photo or web page.

To change the color of the entire layer, click the color box at the bottom of the palette, and then select a new color from the palette or the Color Picker. To change the color of a selected area only, drag the color box around the area you want to change.

To delete a color from the layer, select the color and then click the Delete button in the toolbar.
