If you’re looking to use AWS services in the United States, you’ll need to create an account and select a region. To find your AWS region, open the AWS Management Console and select Regions.
AWS Regions
The AWS Regions feature allows you to select a region for your AWS account. This region determines the availability and pricing of AWS services.
You can use the Regions feature to select the region in which you want to create an AWS account, or to select an existing AWS account.
To use Regions, open the AWS Management Console and select Regions. The Regions screen displays the following information for each region:
Region name
Region ID
Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Regions
If you select an existing AWS account, the Regions screen displays the following information:
Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Region ID
Region Name
Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Status
This information is also displayed in the EC2 console. To open the EC2 console, select EC2 in the Management Console menu.
Region IDs
The Region IDs for the AWS Regions are as follows:
US East (N. Virginia)
US West (Oregon)
US West (Northern California)
Asia Pacific (Singapore)
Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
Europe (Ireland)
Europe (London)
South America (Sao Paulo)
You can use the Region IDs to identify the region for your account. For example, if your account is in US East, you can use the Region IDs for US East (N.
Virginia) and US West (Oregon) to identify the region. If you later want to use AWS services in another region, you can use the Region IDs for that region.
AWS Region IDs are unique for each AWS account. You cannot use the Region IDs to identify the region for an EC2 instance.
For more information, see Regions in the AWS Management Console.
Conclusion
To find your AWS region name, open the AWS Management Console and select Regions. The Regions screen displays the Region IDs for the AWS Regions.
