Figma is a vector graphics editor and prototyping tool – the first interface design tool with real-time collaboration. It’s free to use and works on Mac, Windows and Linux. But how do you get your Figma source code?
Figma has a few different ways to export your designs:
- For production: To generate production-ready code, select ‘File > Export > Generate Code..’ from the Figma menu. This will open the ‘Generate Code’ dialogue, where you can choose the CSS properties you want to include in your code.
- For prototype: To generate code for a prototype, select ‘File > Export > Generate Prototype Code.
This will open the ‘Generate Prototype Code’ dialogue, where you can choose the HTML events you want to include in your code.
- For design: To generate code for a design, select ‘File > Export > Generate Design Code. This will open the ‘Generate Design Code’ dialogue, where you can choose the CSS properties you want to include in your code.
Once you’ve chosen which type of code you want to generate, you can then select which layers or frames you want to include in your code. To do this, simply click on the layer or frame in the ‘Layers’ panel, then click ‘Add to Code’.
You can also select multiple layers or frames by holding down the Shift key while clicking on them. Once you’ve selected all the layers or frames you want to include, click ‘OK’.
The generated code will then be outputted to a new file, which you can save anywhere on your computer.
