How Do I Get Paid Early on UpWork?

Last updated on January 28, 2023 @ 11:41 am

Most of the clients on UpWork are good about paying on time. But sometimes, you may need to take matters into your own hands to get paid early.

There are a few things you can do to try to get paid early on UpWork:

1. Set up automatic payments

If you go into your settings and set up automatic payments, UpWork will automatically deduct your earnings from the client’s account and deposit them into yours. This is the easiest way to get paid early, but it only works if the client has the funds available in their account.

2. Send a polite reminder

If the client is a little late in paying, you can always send them a polite reminder. Something like, “Hi [client name], just wanted to check in to see if you’re able to make that payment today? Thanks!” Often times, this is all it takes to get the client to take action and pay you.

3. Offer a discount for early payment

If you’re really eager to get paid early, you can try offering a small discount for clients who pay within 24 or 48 hours. This incentive may be enough to get them to move your invoice to the top of their list of priorities.

4. Request partial payment upfront

Another option is to request partial payment upfront. This way, even if the client doesn’t end up paying you in full until later, you’ll at least have some money in your pocket to tide you over.

5. File a dispute

If all else fails, you can always file a dispute with UpWork’s support team. They may be able to help you recover your earnings if the client is truly withholding payment unfairly.

While there’s no guarantee that any of these methods will work 100% of the time, they’re definitely worth trying if you need to get paid early on UpWork.

PRO TIP: If you are considering asking for early payment on Upwork, be aware that this is considered a red flag by many clients and may result in you being banned from the platform.
