How Do I Import a Figma File Into Sketch?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 10:32 pm

There are a few different ways that you can import a Figma file into Sketch. The first way is to use the ‘File > Import’ menu option within Sketch. This will bring up a dialog box asking you to select the file you wish to import. Once you have selected your Figma file, click ‘Open’ and Sketch will import the file into your current document.

Another way to import a Figma file into Sketch is to use the ‘Sketch Toolbox’ app. This is a third-party app that allows you to manage your Sketch plugins and resources all in one place. To install Sketch Toolbox, simply download it from the website and double-click on the downloaded file to install it. Once it is installed, launch the app and click on the ‘Plugins’ tab.

Here, you will see a list of all the available Sketch plugins. Scroll down until you find the ‘Figma Importer’ plugin and click on the ‘Install’ button next to it. Once the plugin is installed, go back to your Sketch document and select the ‘File > Import’ menu option. In the dialog box that appears, select the ‘Figma File’ option and choose the Figma file you wish to import.

The last way to import a Figma file into Sketch is to use the ‘Figma Mirror’ app. This is a companion app for Figma that allows you to view your Figma designs on your mobile device in real-time. To use Figma Mirror, simply download it from the App Store or Google Play Store and install it on your device. Once it is installed, launch the app and sign in with your Figma account credentials. Next, select the project you wish to view from the list of projects displayed in the app. Finally, tap on the ‘Mirror’ button at the bottom of the screen.

PRO TIP: We strongly recommend against importing Figma files into Sketch. Doing so can result in unpredictable and often undesirable outcomes, including but not limited to:

-Loss of fidelity in terms of design elements and overall look and feel
-Inconsistent styling and spacing
-Unexpected changes to layer order and structure
-Missing or incorrect export settings

In short, importing a Figma file into Sketch is likely to cause more problems than it solves. If you absolutely must import a Figma file into Sketch for some reason, we suggest exporting it as an .svg file first, then importing that into Sketch.
