If you’re running a Shopify store, you know that good product organization is key to success. One way to keep your products well organized is to use Shopify’s collections feature.
Collections let you group together similar products so they’re easy for customers to find.
If you have a lot of products, or if you plan to add more products to your store in the future, you might want to import your collections from a spreadsheet. This way, you can create and edit your collections in bulk, and you don’t have to add each product to a collection one at a time.
In this article, we’ll show you how to import collections into your Shopify store from a CSV file. We’ll also give you a few tips on how to format your CSV file so the import process goes smoothly.
Before You Start
There are a few things you need to do before you start importing collections into your Shopify store:
- Back up your Shopify store. Before you make any changes to your store, it’s always a good idea to create a backup. That way, if something goes wrong during the import process, you can always revert back to a previous version of your store.
- Export your existing collections. If you have any collections already set up in your Shopify store, export them before you start the import process. That way, you can use the existing collections as a template for your new CSV file.
- Create a CSV file. You’ll need to create a CSV file with all of the information about the collections you want to import into Shopify.
If you’re not sure how to format your CSV file, don’t worry! We’ll give you some tips on that later in this article.
- Make sure all of your products are in Shopify. The products that you want to add to your collections need to be in your Shopify store already. If they’re not, add them now.
- Gather all of the product information. You’ll need some basic information about each product that you want to add to a collection. Make sure that you have this information before you start importing.
How To Import Collections Into Shopify Using A CSV File
Now that you’ve done all of the preparation work, it’s time to start importing collections into Shopify! Here’s how:
- From your Shopify admin panel, go to Products > Collections.
You should see a list of any existing collections that have been set up in your shop. If this is the first time you’ve set up collections, this list will be empty.
- Click on the Import button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
You’ll be taken to the Import Collections page.
- Under “Choose Data File,” click on Browse and select the CSV file that contains all of your collection information.
- Check the box next to “I understand that my data will be replaced..” and click on Continue.
-
(Optional) Under “Advanced Options,” check off any options that apply to your data. For example, if your CSV file includes HTML tags or links in the description field, checking off “HTML in Description” will ensure that these tags and links are preserved when imported. When you’re finished making changes, click on Continue. You’ll be taken back to the Collections page where you can see all of the collections that were imported from your CSV file.
And that’s it! You’ve successfully imported collections into your Shopify store from a CSV file. Now that all of your products are organized into collections, it will be easier for customers to find what they’re looking for when they visit your shop.
