How Do I Install Plugins in Photoshop Elements?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 8:52 pm

There are a few ways to install plugins in Photoshop Elements, and the method you use will depend on the plugin you’re trying to install. In most cases, you can simply download the plugin file and double-click it to install it. Once it’s installed, the plugin will appear in the Effects menu or palette in Photoshop Elements.

If the plugin you’re installing doesn’t come with an installer, you’ll need to copy the files to the correct location on your hard drive. For Windows, the default location for plugins is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements [version]\Plug-Ins\.

PRO TIP: If you are not familiar with Photoshop Elements or do not feel comfortable installing plugins, we suggest that you seek help from a friend or professional. Incorrectly installing plugins can cause problems with Photoshop Elements and may even render it unusable.

For Mac OS, the default location is Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements [version]/Plug-Ins/. Once the files are in the correct location, restart Photoshop Elements and the plugin will be available.

Some plugins come with a separate application that needs to be installed. In most cases, you can just double-click the installer file and follow the prompts. Once the application is installed, it will typically add an entry to the Effects menu or palette in Photoshop Elements.

Once you’ve installed a plugin, it’s important to keep it up to date. Plugin developers often release updates to fix bugs or add new features. Keeping your plugins up to date ensures that you have the best possible experience with them and helps keep your computer safe from any security vulnerabilities that might be present in older versions.
