When it comes to setting up an online store, WooCommerce is one of the most popular choices for WordPress users. It’s a free eCommerce plugin that can be added to any WordPress site, and it provides a lot of features and options to help you run a successful online business.
However, one thing that WooCommerce doesn’t offer by default is the ability to limit purchases.
There are a few different reasons why you might want to limit purchases in your WooCommerce store. For example, you might want to set a limit on how many items a customer can buy in a single order, or you might want to restrict certain products so that they can only be bought in certain quantities.
Whatever your reason for wanting to limit purchases, there are a few different ways you can do it.
Use the built-in “minimum/maximum order amount” setting
WooCommerce includes a built-in setting that allows you to set minimum and maximum order amounts for your store. You can find this setting by going to WooCommerce > Settings > General, and then scrolling down to the “Minimum Order Amount” and “Maximum Order Amount” fields.
If you only want to set a minimum or maximum order amount, you can leave the other field blank. For example, if you enter “10” in the minimum order amount field, customers will need to spend at least $10 in your store before they can checkout. Or, if you enter “100” in the maximum order amount field, customers will not be able to spend more than $100 in your store in a single order.
Limit stock for certain products
Another way to limit purchases is by limiting the stock for certain products. This is useful if you want to restrict customers to buying only a certain number of items per product, or if you want to make sure that certain products don’t sell out too quickly. You can find the stock settings for each product by editing the product and scrolling down to the “Inventory” section.
In the “Stock Status” field, you can choose whether the product is “In Stock” or “Out of Stock”. If you select “Out of Stock”, customers will not be able to add the product to their cart.
In the “Stock Quantity” field, you can enter the number of items that are available for purchase. Once that number has been reached, customers will no longer be able to buy the product.
Use a plugin
If you need more flexibility than what WooCommerce offers by default, there are plenty of plugins that can help you out. For example, the WooCommerce Limit Order Amount plugin lets you set minimum and maximum order amounts as well as minimum and maximum item quantities per product.
