In this Photoshop tutorial we’re going to look at how to create a high resolution logo. We’ll be using a couple of Photoshop’s built in filters, some Layer Styles and a bit of freehand drawing. By the end of the tutorial you should have a good understanding of how to create your own high resolution logos in Photoshop.
First let’s create a new document, I’m going to use the settings shown in the image below. The important setting here is the Resolution, this needs to be set to at least 300dpi, but for print work you’ll want it to be higher, around 350dpi or more.
Once you’ve created your new document go ahead and add your text. I’m just using some basic Arial black text for this tutorial.com/photoshop/images/add_text.jpg” alt=”Add Text”>
Now we need to add some layer styles to our text layer. Double click on the text layer in the layers panel to bring up the Layer Style dialog box.com/photoshop/images/layer_style_dialog.jpg” alt=”Layer Style Dialog”>
Add the following layer styles to your text layer:
- Drop Shadow: Color #000000, Opacity 75%, Angle 120º, Distance 7px, Spread 7px, Size 7px
- Inner Shadow: Color #000000, Opacity 40%, Angle -120º, Distance 8px, Choke 8px, Size 0px
- Outer Glow: Color #ffffff, Opacity 30%, Technique Softer, Spread 10%, Size 10px, Range 50%
- Inner Glow: Color #000000, Opacity 30%, Technique Softer, Choke 10%, Size 10px
- Bevel and Emboss: Style Inner Bevel, Technique Smooth Normal, Depth 1000%, Direction Up, Size 8px, Soften 8px, Angle 120º, Altitude 30º; Highlight Mode Screen at 75% opacity; Shadow Mode Multiply at 75% opacity
You should now have something that looks like this:
Now we’re going to add some noise to our logo using one of Photoshop’s built-in filters.
Go to Filter > Add Noise and enter the following settings:
Amount: 10%
Distribution: Uniform
Monochromatic: Checked
Your image should now look something like this:
Next we’re going to add some more noise using Photoshop’s Median filter.
Go to Filter > Noise > Median and enter a Radius of 3 pixels.
Your image should now look something like this:
Now we’re going to add some Gaussian Blur to our logo.
Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and enter a Radius of 1 pixel..tutorialspoint//photoshop//images//gaussian_blur_.jpg” alt=”Gaussian Blur”>
Note
If your text is looking a bit blurry you can always go back and adjust the Radius setting in the Gaussian Blur dialog box.
