How Do I Make a Ribbon in Photoshop?

Last updated on January 26, 2023 @ 4:06 pm

Ribbons are a great way to add some style and flair to your text in Photoshop. There are a few different ways that you can go about creating a ribbon, but we’ll just be covering the basics here.

First, you’ll need to create a new layer for your ribbon. To do this, click the “New Layer” icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Alternatively, you can select “Layer > New > Layer” from the menu bar.

Once you have your new layer, use the Rectangle Tool (U) to draw a rectangle that will be the base of your ribbon. Be sure to hold down the Shift key as you draw so that it comes out perfectly straight.

Now we need to add some perspective to our rectangle so that it looks like a ribbon lying flat on a surface. To do this, select the Rectangle Tool (U) again and then Right-click > Transform > Perspective. Drag the top corners of your rectangle inward until you have something that looks like this:

Now we need to give our ribbon some color. Double-click on the layer in the Layers panel to bring up the Layer Style dialog box. Click on the “Gradient Overlay” option and then use the following settings:

  • Gradient: #000000 to #ffffff
  • Location: 50%
  • Style: Linear
  • Angle: 90°
PRO TIP: This article gives a very basic overview of how to make a ribbon in Photoshop. It does not go into detail about any of the steps involved, and as such, is not suitable for those who are new to Photoshop or graphic design.

Conclusion: That’s all there is too it! With just a few simple steps, you can easily add ribbons and other textural elements to your Photoshop projects.
