When creating a new Photoshop document, you’ll need to set the width and height of your canvas. Next, create a new layer. You can do this by clicking the “Create a new layer” icon in the Layers panel.
Now you’ll need to grab the Ellipse Tool from the Tools palette. Once you have the Ellipse Tool selected, click and drag on your canvas to create a circle.
Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) on the layer in the Layers panel and choose Convert to Smart Object. This will allow us to resize the shape without losing quality.
Next, we need to add some anchor points to our circle so we can distort it into a shape that looks more like a speech bubble. With the Smart Object layer selected, go up to the Filter menu in the Menu Bar and choose Distort > Warp.
This brings up the Warp dialog box. In the Options section at the top of the dialog box, change the Warp Mode to Arc Lower. Then click and drag on your circle to distort it into a shape that looks like a speech bubble.
Once you’re happy with how your speech bubble looks, click OK in the Warp dialog box to apply your changes. Now we just need to add some text!
Go up to the Type tool in the Tools palette and click inside your speech bubble. Type out whatever message you want your bubble to convey, then hit Enter (Windows) / Return (Mac) on your keyboard to create a new line of text if needed.
To style our text, let’s go up to the Options Bar at the top of the screen and change our font size to something larger, like 36 pt. We can also change our font color by clicking on the color swatch next to “Fill:” in the Options Bar (it’s currently set to black).
This brings up Photoshop’s Color Picker. Choose whatever color you like for your text and then click OK when you’re done.
Now that we have our basic speech bubble complete, let’s add a few finishing touches! First, let’s give our speech bubble some color by adding a gradient overlay layer style.
To do this, double-click on the Smart Object layer in the Layers panel to bring up the Layer Style dialog box. Then click on “Gradient Overlay” in left column under “Blending Options. ”
This opens up Photoshop’s Gradient Editor dialog box. Choose whatever colors you like for your gradient and then click OK when you’re done.
Next, let’s add a drop shadow layer style by clicking on “Drop Shadow” in left column under “Blending Options.” This brings up Photoshop’s Drop Shadow dialog box. Choose whatever settings you like for your drop shadow and then click OK when you’re done.
Finally, let’s add some depth to our speech bubble by giving it a bevel and emboss layer style. To do this, click on “Bevel and Emboss” in left column under “Blending Options.” This opens up Photoshop’s Bevel and Emboss dialog box.
