How Do I Make an Apng in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 21, 2023 @ 6:57 am

There is one simple way and a few steps to follow in order to make an APNG in Photoshop. That is to use the built-in Export function.

To do this, go to File > Export > Render Video.

In the Render Video window, select the “Photoshop Image Sequence” option from the drop-down menu and set the format to “PNG.” From there, go to the Render Options section and set the Alpha Channel field to “Straight – Unmatted.” Once done, click on the “Render” button.

Once the PNG files are ready, you can then use a third-party tool like APNG Assembler to create Animated PNG files from the sequence of individual PNG image files generated from Photoshop. The APNG Assembler can be found here: https://apngasm.sourceforge.net

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to make an Animated Portable Network Graphics (APNG) file in Adobe Photoshop. APNG is a file format for animated images. It is similar to the GIF format, but it allows for better compression and supports transparency and alpha channels. The APNG format is not supported by all web browsers, so you should check with your web browser vendor before using this format.

Another third-party application that we recommend to use in making an APNG is EZGIF, which you can find here: https://ezgif.com/apng-maker.

There are various plugins that are available, but we would recommend using APNG Assembler and EZGIF.

These plugins can be found in the following links: https://apngasm.sourceforge.net and https://ezgif.com/apng-maker. Simply upload your images and these plugins will create Animated PNG files from the uploaded individual PNG image files.
