How do I monitor logs on AWS?

Last updated on September 25, 2022 @ 5:44 pm

AWS logs can be monitored using various logging tools. To get started, AWS provides the AWS Logs Service, which can be used to stream logs to Amazon S3, or to send logs to an EC2 instance or an RDS instance.

Logs can also be sent to an Amazon Athena instance. The AWS Logs Service can be accessed using the AWS Management Console, the AWS Command Line Interface, or the AWS SDKs.

PRO TIP: When monitoring logs on AWS, it is important to be aware of the potential for data loss. If not configured properly, logs can be lost when instances are terminated or stopped.

To view logs on an EC2 instance, you can use the ec2-describe-instances command. To view logs on an RDS instance, you can use the rds-describe-instances command.

To view logs on an Amazon Athena instance, you can use the athena-describe-logs command.
