How Do I Move My Weebly Site to WordPress?

Last updated on September 28, 2022 @ 3:38 pm

There are a few reasons you might want to move your Weebly site to WordPress. Maybe you’re not happy with the limited customization options Weebly offers, or maybe you’re just ready for a change. Whatever your reasons, migrating your site from Weebly to WordPress is a fairly straightforward process.

Before you begin, it’s important to understand that while Weebly is a website builder that allows you to create a website without any coding, WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that requires some basic coding knowledge. If you’re not comfortable with code, don’t worry – there are plenty of resources available to help you get started.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to moving your Weebly site to WordPress:

1. Export your Weebly content.

In your Weebly account, go to Settings > Export Site > Export File. This will download an XML file of your Weebly content.

2. Create a new WordPress site.

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to create a new WordPress site. You can do this by going to WordPress.org and following the instructions.

3. Install the WordPress Importer plugin.

Once you have WordPress installed, log in to your account and go to Plugins > Add New. Search for “WordPress Importer” and install the plugin.

4. Import your content.

In your WordPress account, go to Tools > Import > WordPress. Choose the XML file you downloaded from Weebly and click “Upload file and import. ”

5. Map your authors.

If you have multiple authors on your Weebly site, you’ll need to map them to users in WordPress. To do this, go to Tools > Import > Authors and select the author you want to map.

6. (Optional) Import your images.

If you want to import the images from your Weebly site, you can do so by going to Tools > Import > Attachments. Choose the file path of the images you want to import and click “Upload file and import. ”

That’s it! You’ve successfully migrated your Weebly site to WordPress.

PRO TIP: Weebly has announced that it will be discontinuing its service as of December 31, 2020. If you have a Weebly site, you will need to export your data and migrate it to WordPress before that date.
