How Do I Open an Overlay in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 2:52 pm

Most people don’t realize that you can open an image in an overlay in Photoshop. It’s actually a very simple process. Here’s how you do it:

1. First, open the image that you want to use as your overlay in Photoshop.

2. Next, open the image that you want to use as your background.

3. Now, go to the “Layers” panel and drag the overlay image onto the background image.

4. You’ll see that a new layer has been created on top of the background image.

5. To adjust the opacity of the overlay, simply go to the “Opacity” option in the “Layers” panel and change it to your desired level.

That’s all there is to it! Now you know how to open an image in an overlay in Photoshop.

PRO TIP: Opening an overlay in Photoshop can be tricky, and if you’re not careful, you can end up with a mess of layers. Here are a few tips to help you avoid that:

1. When opening an image as an overlay, make sure the image is the same size as your canvas. Otherwise, you’ll have to resize it, which can distort the image.

2. If you’re using a PNG file as an overlay, make sure it has a transparent background. Otherwise, the background will show up as white or another color on your canvas.

3. When placing an overlay on your canvas, be careful not to move it too much. If you do, you may end up with gaps or white space around the edges of the image.

4. Finally, when you’re done working with an overlay, make sure to save your work as a PSD file. That way, you can come back and make changes later if needed.
