How Do I Password Protect a Product in WooCommerce?

Last updated on January 18, 2023 @ 9:25 am

If you have a WooCommerce store, you may want to password protect certain products. This can be useful if you sell products that are only for certain people, or if you want to hide a product from the public until it is ready. There are a few different ways to password protect a product in WooCommerce.

Method 1: Use a Plugin

There are a few plugins that you can use to password protect products in WooCommerce. One option is the WooCommerce Password Protected Categories plugin. This plugin allows you to password protect any category in your WooCommerce store. Products that are in password protected categories will only be visible to people who know the password.

Another option is the WooCommerce Private Store plugin. This plugin allows you to make your entire WooCommerce store private, and only accessible to people who know the password.

To use either of these plugins, first install and activate them on your site.
For more detailed instructions, see our guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Once the plugins are installed and activated, you can start password protecting products in WooCommerce. First, go to Products » Categories. Here, you will see all the categories that have been created for your products.

If you’re using the WooCommerce Password Protected Categories plugin, then you need to edit the category that contains the products you want to protect. To do that, click on Edit next to the category name. On the edit screen, scroll down to the Password Protect this Category? option and check the box next to it.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about password protecting a product in WooCommerce, there are a few things you should know. First, password protecting a product will make it so that only people with the password can access that product. This means that anyone who does not have the password will not be able to purchase the product. You should also be aware that if you password protect a product, it will not be visible to search engines. This means that your product will not show up in search results, and potential customers will not be able to find it. Finally, you should keep in mind that password protecting a product can make your site more difficult to use for customers. If you do decide to password protect a product, make sure to provide clear instructions on how customers can obtain the password.

You will also need to enter a password for this category in the text field below it. Once you’re finished, click on the Update button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Now when someone visits your store and tries to access this category or any of its products, they will be prompted to enter a password.

If you’re using the WooCommerce Private Store plugin, then protecting your products is even easier. Once activated, this plugin automatically makes your entire store private. People who try accessing your site will be prompted to enter a username and password. You can customize this login page by going to Settings » Private Store. On this screen, you can add your own logo, change colors, and add custom text. You can also create multiple usernames and passwords for different people. To do that, go to Users » Add New User. Enter a username and password for this person. You can also add their name and email address if you want. Once done, click on the Add User button.

Method 2: Manually Password Protect Products in WooCommerce Using Page Restrictions Feature (No Plugin Required)

If you have a WooCommerce store, there may come a time when you need to password protect certain products – whether it’s because they’re only meant for specific people or because you want to hide them from public view until they’re ready. Luckily, there are a few different ways that you can go about doing this without having to install any plugins!

One way is by utilizing WooCommerce’s built-in page restrictions feature. To do this, first head over to Pages in your WordPress Dashboard and edit the page that contains your protected product(s). Once there, scroll down until you see the Page Restrictions meta box – from here, check off “Enable Password Protection” and enter a desired password into the text field below it before clicking “Update” on the right side of the screen (as seen in this screenshot).

Now when someone visits that page on your frontend they will be prompted to enter the correct password before being able to view its contents – once they do so they’ll be able access it like normal! If needed, you can also choose whether or not search engines should index that page by checking or unchecking “Discourage search engines from indexing this page” directly above where we enabled password protection (again, as seen in our screenshot).

Alternatively, another way to go about manually protecting your products would be by utilizing WordPress’s built-in post visibility options feature which can be found under Settings > Reading in your Dashboard (as seen here).

Check off “I would like my site lies at http://exampleurl/, but visitors will see nothing until they log in” before clicking “Save Changes” at the bottom of Reading Settings – doing so will make it so that anyone who isn’t logged into your site won’t be able see any content whatsoever until they input their credentials! Note: If needed later on down the road all you have do disable this feature is simply come back here and uncheck that same box before resaving your changes .
