How do I point my domain to VPS?

Last updated on December 19, 2022 @ 2:49 pm

Assuming you have an existing domain name that you want to use for your VPS, the first step is to purchase a domain name from a domain name registrar. Once you have your domain name, you will need to point your domain name to your VPS.

To do this, you will need to contact your domain name registrar and ask them to set up a DNS record for your domain name that points to your VPS. Here is an example of a DNS record for a domain name that is pointing to a VPS:.

  • IP Address: 192.168.1.100
  • Hostname: myVPS.example.com

To test if your domain name is pointing to your VPS, you can use a domain name search tool, such as www.whois.net

PRO TIP: If you are planning to point your domain to your VPS, please be aware that this process can be complicated and may result in downtime for your website. We recommend that you consult with a professional before making any changes to your DNS settings.
