If you have a Google domain, you can use it with your Squarespace site. To connect your Google domain to Squarespace, you’ll need to set up custom name servers with your domain registrar.
This process is sometimes called DNS hosting or changing name servers. Once you update your name servers, your domain will point to Squarespace and you’ll manage it in your Squarespace account.
Before you begin
Before you set up custom name servers, check if your domain registrar offers registrar locking. Registrar locking prevents unauthorized changes to your domain’s DNS records. If your registrar offers registrar locking, we recommend enabling it.
Step 1 – Set up custom name servers with your registrar
To set up custom name servers:
- Sign in to your Google Domains account, Click DNS.
- Click the My domains button. You’ll see a list of domains associated with your account.
- Click Manage next to the domain you want to use with Squarespace.
-
In the left panel, under Domain settings
-
At the bottom of the page, next to Use custom name servers, and then enter the following values in the corresponding fields.
-
Click Save. After you save, a message appears that says Custom resource records are being propagated. This means that the changes are being applied across the internet so that when someone visits your site, they’ll be directed to Squarespace.
Depending on where they’re viewing from, this process can take up to 48 hours. When propagation is complete, visit your site’s URL to make sure it’s pointing to Squarespace. If it is, Congrats! You ‘ve successfully connected your Google Domain to Squarespace. Now you can manage it in your Squarespace account. In most cases, there’s no need to return to your Google Domains account. If you ever need to make changes, like updating DNS records or transferring ownership of the domain, we recommend contacting Google Domains support directly since they ‘ll be more familiar with their system.
Conclusion:
Pointing a Google Domain to Squarespace is a fairly easy process that can be completed in a few steps. First, sign in to your Google Domains account and click on ‘My domains’. Then, find the domain you want to use with Squarespace and click ‘Manage’. In the left panel under Domain settings, click DNS.
At the bottom of the page, next to Use custom name servers, select ‘ns8.squarespace’ and ‘ns9.squarespace’ as your name server values and click save. After saving, a message will appear saying Custom resource records are being propagated which means the changes are being applied across the internet so that when someone visits your site, they’ll be directed to Squarespace. Depending on where they’re viewing from, this process can take up to 48 hours.
PRO TIP: If you are planning to use Squarespace to host your website, do not use the Google Domain “Pointing” feature. This will not work and could result in your domain being suspended.
