If you’re like me, then you’re always making changes to your Photoshop workspace. Whether it’s adding a new panel or two, or just rearranging things to be more efficient, it’s constantly evolving.
And while I love that Photoshop is so customizable, sometimes things can get a bit out of control and I need to hit the reset button. So today I’m going to show you how to reset the tools and toolbar in Photoshop.
First, let’s talk about resetting the tools. If you go up to the Edit menu at the top of the screen and choose Reset All Tools, Photoshop will bring back all of the default tool settings.
That means that if you’ve changed anything about a tool, like its color or size, those changes will be reverted back to their defaults. This is a great way to start fresh with your tools if things have gotten a little out of hand.
If you just want to reset a single tool, though, you can do that by right-clicking (PC: Control-clicking) on the tool icon in the toolbar. For example, if I right-click on the Brush tool icon, I get this flyout menu where I can choose Reset Tool. This will bring back that specific tool’s default settings without affecting any of the other tools.
Now let’s talk about resetting the toolbar. If you go up to the Window menu and choose Workspace, then choose Reset Workspace, Photoshop will not only reset all of your tools back to their defaults, but it will also reset your entire workspace layout back to its default state. So if you’ve moved any of your panels around or closed any of them, they’ll all be put back in their original locations when you choose this command.
Conclusion:
So there you have it! Now you know how to reset both the tools and toolbar in Photoshop.
As I mentioned earlier, this is a great way to start fresh if things have gotten a bit out of control in your workspace. Give it a try next time things start feeling cluttered.
