Last updated on October 1, 2022 @ 5:37 am

It’s easy to make a mistake when updating your WooCommerce store. Maybe you forgot to test a new feature before rolling it out to your customers.

Maybe you installed an untested plugin that broke something on your site. Whatever the reason, you can always rollback your WooCommerce store to a previous working version. In this article, we’ll show you how to do just that.

Before we get started, it’s important to note that you should always create a backup of your site before updating WooCommerce or any plugins/themes. That way, if something does go wrong, you can always restore your site from the backup.

With that said, let’s get started.

How to Rollback WooCommerce

Step 1:
The first thing you need to do is download the previous version of WooCommerce from the WordPress.org repository. At the time of writing this, the current version of WooCommerce is 3.3.0. However, let’s say we wanted to rollback to version 3.2.6 (the previous stable release).

Step 2:
Once you have the .zip file for the previous version of WooCommerce, you need to connect to your WordPress site via FTP.

If you’re not sure how to do this, check out our guide on how to use FTP to connect to a WordPress site.

Once connected, navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and delete the WooCommerce folder.

Step 3:
Now that the old version of WooCommerce has been deleted, upload the .zip file for the previous release that you downloaded in Step 1.

Once uploaded, extract the contents of the .zip file.

This will create a new WooCommerce folder in your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.

Step 4:
. Now that the new folder has been extracted, go back to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Plugins » Installed Plugins.

. You should now see that WooCommerce has been deactivated.

Simply click on the Activate link under WooCommerce to activate it again. That’s it! You have successfully rolled back your WooCommerce installation.

Conclusion

Rolling back a WooCommerce update is easy enough for anyone to do – even if you’re not particularly tech-savvy. In this article, we showed you how to rollback a WooCommerce update in four easy steps. Just remember: always create a backup of your site before updating anything!
