How do I run an action in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 7:49 pm

An action is a set of commands that Photoshop can run automatically when you drag and drop a file into the program. There are a ton of built-in actions, and you can also create your own.

To create an action, first open the Action panel (Window > Action). In the Action panel, click the “+” button to add a new action.

In the “New Action” dialog box, name the action and click OK.

To use an action, first drag and drop the file you want to action into the program. Then, in the Actions panel, click the action you want to use.

PRO TIP: When running an action in Photoshop, be sure to take note of any warnings that may appear. Some actions may not be compatible with your version of Photoshop, or may not work properly on your system. If you encounter any problems, be sure to consult the action’s documentation or the Photoshop support forums.

In the “Action Options” dialog box, set the options you want the action to have.

For example, you can set the action to copy the file to the clipboard, or to apply a filter to the image.

When you’re done setting the options, click OK. Photoshop will run the action and the changes you made to the file will be reflected in the window.

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts to run actions. For example, to copy the file to the clipboard, you can press C (for “copy”).
