How Do I Sample a Color Outside in Photoshop?

In Photoshop, there are a few different ways that you can sample a color outside. One way is to use the eyedropper tool.

With the eyedropper tool selected, hover your mouse over the area that you want to sample and then click. The color will be added to your Photoshop palette.

Another way to sample a color outside is to use the color picker. To do this, go to the Edit menu and select Color Picker.

In the Color Picker dialog box, click on the area that you want to sample.

PRO TIP: When sampling a color outside in Photoshop, be sure to use the Eyedropper tool (I) and not the Brush tool (B). Otherwise, you may inadvertently change the color of your image.

You can also use the Hue/Saturation tool to sample a color outside. To do this, go to the Image menu and select Adjustments > Hue/Saturation.

In the Hue/Saturation dialog box, click on the Colorize checkbox and then click on the area that you want to sample.
