How Do I Scanline a CRT in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 1:33 am

There are a few ways to scanline a CRT in Photoshop, and the most common method is to use the ‘Filter’ > ‘Texture’ > ‘Grain’ tool.

First, open your image in Photoshop and make sure the ‘Filter’ menu is visible. If it’s not, go to ‘ Window’ > ‘Show Filter’.

Next, select the ‘ Grain’ tool from the list of options.

Now, you’ll need to decide on the amount of scanlines you want to add to your image. The ‘Grain’ tool has a few different settings that you can adjust, but for this tutorial we’ll just be using the ‘Amount’, ‘Size’, and ‘Roughness’ settings.

PRO TIP: This article provides instructions on how to scanline a CRT in Photoshop. However, it is important to note that this process can damage your CRT. Therefore, it is recommended that you only attempt this if you are experienced with Photoshop and know what you are doing.

The ‘Amount’ setting controls how many scanlines are added to the image, so if you want a lot of scanlines, increase this number. For less scanlines, decrease the number.

The ‘Size’ setting determines the width of each scanline. A larger number will create thicker scanlines, while a smaller number will create thinner ones.

The ‘Roughness’ setting controls how jagged the edges of each scanline are. A higher number will create more jagged edges, while a lower number will create smoother edges.

Once you’ve decided on the settings you want to use, click OK and your image will now have scanlines!

Adding scanlines to an image in Photoshop is a quick and easy way to give it a retro look. By using the Grain tool, you can control the amount, size, and roughness of the scanlines to get just the right effect for your image.
