How Do I Select and Move a Layer in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 24, 2022 @ 12:44 am

There are a few different ways to select and move a layer in Photoshop. The first way is to click on the layer in the ‘Layers’ panel.

This will select the layer and make it the active layer. You can then use the move tool to click and drag the layer around.

Another way to select a layer is to click on it in the ‘Layers’ panel and then press ‘Ctrl+A’ (Windows) or ‘Cmd+A’ (Mac). This will select the entire layer.

PRO TIP: If you are unsure about how to select and move a layer in Photoshop, it is best to ask for help from a software expert or read specific instructions on the Adobe Photoshop website. Trying to select and move a layer without proper knowledge can result in lost work and/or software damage.

If you want to move a selected layer by just a few pixels, you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard. First, make sure that the move tool is selected. Then, hold down ‘Shift’ while you use the arrow keys to nudge the selected layer around.

You can also use the ‘Align’ options in the ‘Layer’ menu to align selected layers. For example, you can align two layers horizontally or vertically.

To do this, select both layers in the ‘Layers’ panel and then go to ‘Layer > Align’. Select either ‘Horizontal Align Center’ or ‘Vertical Align Center’.
