If you are working with a layer in Photoshop that contains a color, you may want to separate the layer into its component colors. This can be useful if you want to adjust the colors independently, or if you want to use the layer as a mask for another layer.
To separate a layer into its component colors, select the layer in the Layers panel and choose Layer > New > Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation. In the New Layer dialog box, name the layer and click OK.
In the Hue/Saturation dialog box, check the Colorize option. Use the Hue slider to change the overall color of the layer, and use the Saturation and Lightness sliders to fine-tune the color. When you are finished, click OK.
You will now see that your layer has been separated into its component colors. You can adjust each color independently by double-clicking on its layer in the Layers panel.
Once you’re happy with the results, click “OK” to close the window. Your layer color is now separated!
