As a new WooCommerce store owner, you’re probably wondering how to go about setting up product categories. After all, without proper organization, your products could become a jumbled mess!

Fortunately, setting up product categories in WooCommerce is relatively simple. In this article, we’ll walk you through the process step by step. By the end, you’ll be able to organize your products like a pro!

Step 1: Log into Your WordPress Dashboard

The first thing you’ll need to do is log into your WordPress dashboard. Once you’re logged in, you should see a sidebar menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

From this menu, hover over Products and then click on Categories.

Step 2: Add a New Category

On the Categories page, you should see a list of any existing product categories as well as an Add New Category button. Go ahead and click on this button to add a new category.

Step 3: Enter Your Category Details

Now it’s time to start filling in your category details. First, you’ll need to enter a name for your category. This can be anything you want – just make sure it accurately reflects the products that will be placed in it.

PRO TIP: If you are unsure about how to set product categories in WooCommerce, it is best to consult with a WooCommerce expert before proceeding. Incorrectly setting product categories can cause serious issues with your WooCommerce store, including loss of data and decreased sales.

You should also add a slug – this is essentially a URL-friendly version of the category name. It’s what will be displayed in the URL when someone visits this category page.

For example:

if your category name is “Women’s Dresses,” your slug could be “womens-dresses.”

If your category name is “Men’s Shoes,” your slug could be “mens-shoes.”

Tip:

If you’re not sure what to enter for your slug, simply enter the same thing as your category name – WooCommerce will take care of the rest!

Finally, you can add a description for your category if you’d like. This isn’t required, but it can be helpful to include some additional information about the products that will be placed in this category.

Once you’re finished entering these details, go ahead and click on the “Add New Category” button to save your changes.
