How Do I Show VAT on an Invoice in WooCommerce?

If you are running a WooCommerce store, it is likely that you will need to show Value Added Tax (VAT) on your invoices. This can be a little bit daunting if you are not used to dealing with VAT, but don’t worry – it’s actually quite straightforward. In this article, we will run through how to show VAT on an invoice in WooCommerce.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that the “Enable Taxes and Tax calculations” option is checked in your WooCommerce settings. You can find this option under WooCommerce > Settings > General.

Once you have checked this option, you will need to enter your shop’s tax details under WooCommerce > Settings > Taxes. Here, you will need to enter your shop’s country and state, as well as your tax rate. You can also choose whether or not to display prices including tax.

Once you have entered your tax details, they will be automatically applied to all of your products. However, if you want to override the tax settings for a specific product, you can do so by editing the product and scrolling down to the “Tax” section.

Here, you can choose whether or not the product is taxable, and if so, at what rate. You can also choose whether or not to display the price including tax.

When it comes to displaying VAT on invoices, there are two different approaches you can take. The first approach is to use the [wc_tax] shortcode.

This shortcode will insert a line item for VAT into your invoice. The second approach is to edit your invoice template and add a line item for VAT manually. If you go down this route, you will need to calculate the VAT amount yourself using the following formula:

(Price of product / 100) * VAT rate

Once you have calculated the VAT amount, you can add it as a line item on your invoice template. Remember to style the line item appropriately using HTML tags such as < b > and < u >, so that it stands out from the rest of the content on the invoice.

And that’s all there is to it! Showing VAT on an invoice in WooCommerce is actually quite simple once you know how. Just remember to enable taxes in your settings, enter your shop’s tax details, and then either use the [wc_tax] shortcode or add a line item for VAT manually.

PRO TIP: If you are displaying prices with VAT included, you will need to add a line item to your invoice for the VAT amount. This can be done by going to WooCommerce > Settings > General, and selecting the option to show prices inclusive of VAT.
