There is one simple way to smooth lines in Photoshop, and the adjustments will depend on the type of line you’re working with. The easiest way to smooth lines in Photoshop is by using the Layer Mask Tool.

Follow the steps below to get started.

1. In this tutorial, we will smoothen the jagged lines created after applying a selection tool. To do this, select the “Quick Selection Tool” in the left toolbar and select the part of the image that you want to retain.

2. Next is to add a layer mask by selecting the “Add a Layer Mask” button at the bottom of the Layers window.

3. Your layer should now have a layer mask attached to it. From there, select the “Create an Adjustment Layer” button at the bottom part of the Layers window.

4. Select “Solid Color” from the options.

5. In the Color Picker window that will appear, select the black color or type in “#000000” in the color code section.

6. A new layer should now be available in the Layers section. Click and drag the adjustment layer that you just created below the image layer.

7. Black should now be the background of the image you are working with.

NOTE: The black background makes it easy for you to see the changes made in the image.

9. From there, go to the Properties window and select the “Select and Mask” option.

NOTE: You can zoom in (Ctrl++) on the image to see a clearer view of the adjustments applied.

11. Finally, go to the Global Refinements section and adjust the “Smooth“, “Feather“, “Contrast“, and “Shift Edge” settings to your preference. You can see the real-time effect of the adjustments on your image.
