How do I soften edges in Photoshop?

Last updated on September 23, 2022 @ 8:28 pm

When you’re editing a photo and you need to soften the edge of a file, there are a few ways to go about it. One way is to use the Content-Aware Fill feature in Photoshop to fill in the missing pixels with whatever is in the surrounding area. This is a very effective way to soften edges, but it can be a bit time-consuming and it’s not always the most precise method. Another way to soften edges is to use the Clone Stamp tool.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, softening edges in Photoshop can lead to a loss of detail in your image. Be sure to zoom in and check your work often when softening edges, and use a low opacity setting if possible.

You can use the Stamp tool to create a copy of the edge of the file and then use the Edit Menu > Transform > Sharpen to make the edge even softer. Finally, you can use the Blur tool to soften the edge of the file by Gaussian Blurring it.
