How Do I Turn Off Auto Select Layer in Photoshop?

Last updated on January 29, 2023 @ 9:20 am

In Photoshop, the “Deselect” option is located in the Select option when a selection tool is active. By default, this option is turned on when you selected a selection tool.

With the “Deselect” option turned on, this means that a selection has been used in your design and is currently active so when you click on a layer or an element, you might have problems applying a certain effect. If the layer you click on is not affected, then you might have to do this quick fix to solve this.

To disable the active selection tool:

1. Click on the “Select” option in the top menu.

2. In the list of options, select the “Deselect” option to deactivate any selection tool.

NOTE: Always check on this section if you are having problems applying a certain tool or effect in your designs. A selection tool might be active.

Conclusion:

Turning off selection tools is a good idea if you don’t want Photoshop to automatically nullify your effects on certain layers of your designs. You can turn off selection tools by choosing the “Deselect” option under “Select” in the top menu bar.

PRO TIP: If you are not careful, turning off selection tools in Photoshop can cause problems. First, make sure that you have a backup of your image before turning off selection tools. Second, when you turn off selection tools, Photoshop may not be able to properly select the layer you want to work on.
