A clipping path is a vector path, often created with the pen tool in Photoshop, that is used to clip out an object from its background.

There are a few different ways to create a clipping path in Photoshop, but the most common way is to use the pen tool. To create a clipping path with the pen tool, simply trace around the object that you want to clip out.

When you’re finished tracing, right-click on the path and select “Make Selection.” This will create a selection around your object.

PRO TIP: When using the clipping path tool in Photoshop, it is important to be careful not to clip too much of the image. If you clip too much, you will not be able to see the full image and it may be difficult to edit.

Once you have a selection around your object, you can inverse the selection (Ctrl+Shift+I) and delete the background. Or, you can add a layer mask to your object layer and paint over the background with a black brush to hide it.

Clipping paths are very versatile and can be used for more than just isolating objects from their backgrounds. You can also use clipping paths to create custom shapes, as well as to mask out certain areas of an image.
